Getting Connected: Jennie Grose

Jennie Grose/Wood. Grose design. https://www.grosedesign.com/
From high school > UCM > Liverpool Hope University.

Graduated in 3D.
Started working a small filing office in Liverpool, which was soul destroying, but paid the bills but after a while she started looking at other possible jobs/companies/businesses, there was out there. She saw an ad in the newspaper and they were looking for another designer to help with a project. Jennie didn’t have any experience with graphic design, but she took her chances and applied for it. Luckily, they accepted her application and she begun working for them. Weirdly someone who she studied with the university college Isle of Man was a Graphic designer there. For the two years she worked there she worked along side her old friend and picked up a lot of graphic design techniques from him.
After the two years the job started becoming too similar and she wanted to move on with her own kind of works, a lot of people doubted her, people told her she was too young, that it wouldn’t work out, but this just encouraged her more to start her own business.
She created her own logo, it was made to look personal and approachable. I feel as though her logo works well, its simple but very affective. She started out designing logos for local businesses on the IOM. One of her first projects was to design a yoghurt package, Paula’s kitchen, Manx Heritage, our local identity. She was employed to re brand the food and drink festival for the Isle of Man. Creating adverts, logos, tote bags, working with a range of Manx artists such as Alice Quayle, Nicola Dickson, and many more.
What is nice about a local company is how the Manx world is a small place, where word of mouth is very powerful for businesses. This is one of the tactics Jennie used when starting off, she produced great work which the clients loved and from there the client does the rest of the publicising for her design work.
